Although not normally seen as a 'sport' Tai Chi Chuan is a Chinese Martial Art for ALL. On a physical level it can be a relaxed way of exercising, as a training method it is as hard a workout as any other discipline.. Called 'Gung Fu' in China this translates to 'Hard Work'. Tai Chi can be competitive and was included as a demonstration sport at the Beijing Olympics. Competitions run across the world from the Far East, Europe to National level. However, it's what it offer education that's interesting. Teaching the calming techniques allows children to understand that 'feeling calm is good'. This in turn helps learning and in fact competitive sports.
Teaching teenagers Tai Chi Chuan as a Martial Art helps improve confidence and physical fitness.
