I really enjoyed seeing this. Taking nothing away from the idea some years ago I saw a similar idea being demonstrated by a professional golfer using a medicine ball being bounced off a wall. Now as a direct result of watching this article I have the germ of an idea formulating in my mind using a smaller, lighter 1kg or 2kg weighted soft ball to develop strength, technique and accuracy of passing a rugby ball in young rugby players I help coach. The main problem will be getting other coaches on board to accept the creativity talked about. If the idea does not work then I adapt and adjust but never stop trying to be creative and developing interesting coaching sessions for players.
Good demonstration of using techniques that help a particular aspect without making it bound up with the actual equipment of the game. All too often as coaches we stick to "tried and tested" techniques and anything outside of this does not work. Parents often comment when using new ideas but not always in a positive mode. As I work in and around Winchester it would be good to get Richard involved in my sport, squash, with coaches to break down some of the current thinking and bring in some new ideas.
