Hi everyone ....
My team are going into the under 10's league in September . They keep asking me about the offside rule and how it works. Is it too early to explain and teach them about this part of the game.
In my experience I wouldn't bother. Yes, it's great that they are asking and they're keen to learn but they may start using it as excuses in training etc. e.g. 'No that's not fair he was offside'. You want to make you training sessions as realistic to their game as you can. The information is not relevant to them just yet, maybe try and encourage them to watch senior or professional games to see if they can work out what offside is? You don't want to overload them with information that they aren't going to put into practice. As I said this is just from my own experience..your players may be able to learn about the offside rule without it effecting their current way of playing/behaving.
Thankyou... That was what I was thinking , not overloading them. But I think some of the lads could understand and take it all in.
