The Sports Coach UK ‘How to Coach the Fundamentals of Movement’ workshop gives coaches a full understanding of this model and the Fundamentals Movement Skills you can include in your coaching sessions. You can find out more about the workshop here http://www.sportscoachuk.org/site-tools/workshops/about-our-workshops/how-coach-fundamentals-movement . The Coaching Children 5-12: The Next Generation workshop is coming soon so I will post a link when that is available

Hi David
The YPDM looks to have quite a few implications for how we coach, especially for the youngest participants. The video is excellent, but I don't think I could claim to have developed anything even approaching a full understanding of the model, yet.

I am booked in for a How to Coach FM workshop in March - do you know how much time will be dedicated to the YPDM? I really want to integrate FMS practice into session "warm-ups" for u7s, so that is my the main reason for attending the workshop...but a better understanding of the YPDM would inform all of my coaching.

Hi Andrew,

The workshop is almost entirely practical - so 30 mins or so boxes off the theory - but we do need to have some research in there so people don't think I dreamt this all up haha. Feel free to use and share the YPDM as you need, the idea is that it's there as a pre and post course resource.

Also remember the model is an ideal. i.e. most children will not come to you at lets say 6 years old already having had the experiences stated as ideal in the model. it's still a case of n=1 with every child. So don't feel you need to have it all sorted in your head when you leave the room in March - it's about new ideas and finding ways to integrate those.

Thanks David - I do like a bit of theory...but 30 minutes seems about right.
